Only a few days left to 2008.
I've been very busy since October and finally now I have a little break for me to sit down and have a deep thought about my future.
I didn't go out to celebrate Christmas. And I'm not planning to go out on New Year Eve.
This is my third year alone on New Year Eve.
31/12/2005, I was alone in Canberra, with 3 cats and 1 rabbit, I was terribly sick.
31/12/2006, I was alone in a hotel room in Singapore, I was probably sleeping already when everybody else was counting down.
31/12/2007, I'm planning to stay and home and count down with my 2 lovely cats. I hope I won't fell asleep before mid-night.

Last supper
This is my last supper in Singapore.
I didn't have something very special, instead, I had the dish that I probably had for my lunch/dinner most of the time when I'm at hall - chicken rice.
I wouldn't say this chicken rice is the best in Singapore, but the taste is not too bad, when comparing to other food in hall!
And it's cheap! S$2.50 plus a free soup. Actually sometimes the soup was the real motivation for me to have the chicken rice!
Most importantly, the auntie in the stall is very nice.
I know my sisters will be very shocked when they see this photo coz I don't eat bean spouts. Yes, I still don't eat them, especially when I see heaps on them on top of the rice!!! yuck!!
But they didn't use bean spouts until these 2 weeks, I really don't know why.. they used to use my favourite bak choy (小棠菜) all the time!!
Anyway.. I'm almost packed for tomorrow. I'm very tired now since I only slept for 1 hour last night. I'd better get some sleep now.
I'll probably write some more posts about my life in Singapore later when I'm back to Hong Kong. But for the time being, I'll be away until at least Dec 23.

Just laugh
Haven't had a good laugh for a very long time.
Although I still have lots of stuff to pack, I still let myself sit down and watch some funny videos which I don't usually watch. I had a great time!! And I suddenly realized that I really haven't been laughing for a very very long time already.
If you also need a laugh, here you go:

Leave the Kangaroos alone!!!
When will you people have enough experiments or testing on the animals??? Now even on their FARTS??? Is there anything better to do???
To stop global warming, the best way is to do it from yourself!! Drive less, don't use air-con, give back more spaces to other residence in the world - trees and animals, and even stop those experiments would also help! Anything would be fine BUT to stop cattle and sheep from farting 'harmful' gas!!
Eco-friendly kangaroo farts could help global warming: scientists
SYDNEY (AFP) — Australian scientists are trying to give kangaroo-style stomachs to cattle and sheep in a bid to cut the emission of greenhouse gases blamed for global warming, researchers say.
Thanks to special bacteria in their stomachs, kangaroo flatulence contains no methane and scientists want to transfer that bacteria to cattle and sheep who emit large quantities of the harmful gas.
While the usual image of greenhouse gas pollution is a billowing smokestack pushing out carbon dioxide, livestock passing wind contribute a surprisingly high percentage of total emissions in some countries.
"Fourteen percent of emissions from all sources in Australia is from enteric methane from cattle and sheep," said Athol Klieve, a senior research scientist with the Queensland state government.
"And if you look at another country such as New Zealand, which has got a much higher agricultural base, they're actually up around 50 percent," he told AFP.
Researchers say the bacteria also makes the digestive process much more efficient and could potentially save millions of dollars in feed costs for farmers.
"Not only would they not produce the methane, they would actually get something like 10 to 15 percent more energy out of the feed they are eating," said Klieve.
Even farmers who laugh at the idea of environmentally friendly kangaroo farts say that's nothing to joke about, particularly given the devastating drought Australia is suffering.
"In a tight year like a drought situation, 15 percent would be a considerable sum," said farmer Michael Mitton.
But it will take researchers at least three years to isolate the bacteria, before they can even start to develop a way of transferring it to cattle and sheep.
Another group of scientists, meanwhile, has suggested Australians should farm fewer cattle and sheep and just eat more kangaroos.
The idea is controversial, but about 20 percent of health conscious Australians are believed to eat the national symbol already.
"It's low in fat, it's got high protein levels it's very clean in the sense that basically it's the ultimate free range animal," said Peter Ampt of the University of New South Wales's institute of environmental studies.
"It doesn't get drenched, it doesn't get vaccinated, it utilizes food right across the landscape, it moves around to where the food is good, so yes, it's a good food."
It might take a while for kangaroos to become popular barbecue fare, but with concern over global warming growing in the world's driest inhabited continent, Australians could soon be ready to try almost anything to cut emissions.

生人霸死地 (Revised)
Very recently two of my friends broke up.
They had been together for 6 whole years.
I witnessed how they knew each other, how he fell for her, how he won her heart, how much they loved each other.. and how things gone worse...
She broke up with him one day, and he never expected that (well.. I would say men are usually too insensitive, even I was far away from them, I could sense that way before this happened)
One thing I didn't expect is, she has a new boyfriend soon after they broke up.
She told me that the new guy has been waiting for her for more than one year (or 2? I forgot already, not important)
He was totally lost, of course.
But one thing I think the girl did very good is that she gave him time to calm down and let go. She didn't ask "Can we be friends?"
I hate hypocrites. If you don't love him anymore, leave him alone.
If you found someone so much better than him, leave him alone, don't ask him to do this and do that for you anymore.
You thank him for helping you on your blog post, and in the next paragraph you wrote how sweet you are now with your new boyfriend. WTF is that? You must know he loved you or still loving you.
You said you will always be there for him, you will always be his friend. But you are hugging and kissing someone else at the same time. I will say "Shut the F. up and leave me alone" I were the guy.
Seriously, as a girl, I somehow understand the motive behind this. Of course it will be a perfect world to have 2 guys loving me at the same time and I am not cheating on anyone. But sorry if you are such kind of girl, I despise you. And I can surely tell that you'd never loved that guy before.
Or.. maybe just a new kind of "friendship" that I will never understand.
That's why I like what my girl friend did to her ex-bf, even though I didn't want them to break up. He is super depressed now but he still has us. I know one day he will let go as long as he doesn't get hurt from her anymore.
If this post is offending anyone, I won't be sorry coz I am just writing what I think.

End of single life
No no.. I'm not going to talk about romantic relationship. I'm referring to my overseas life.
I've been away from home since July 2005.
Since then, I am enjoying a large degree of freedom.
Except being not able to see my family and my 2 lovely cats, I do enjoy my time alone overseas.
For the first 1.5 years, I stayed with my 2 sisters,
we had a great time and I think that our relationships became a lot better.
No, we were also ok before that but since I am a bit older than the two of them, I guess this 1.5 years did bring us a bit closer.
And for my last year in Singapore, I am totally free.
I'm away from my family, from the friends I know. I'm totally by myself.
So I can do whatever I want without telling others and explaining to them.
Most of the time I eat by myself and I can skip lunch or dinner whenever I want.
This kind of life may sounds very boring to most of the people,
but this is a perfect lifestyle for me.
I guess I have minor dereism.
But all these will come to the end this Saturday.
I will be in Hong Kong with my family.
I cannot have full control to my life anymore. =(
And thanks to Facebook, I met lots of old friends and that means many gathering will be coming up when I get back to Hong Kong later this month.
Of course I wanna meet them.. but part of myself still want to hide in this little world of myself.
I seriously thought of staying in Singapore for several more years simply because I don't have many friends here. But unfortunately I didn't have time to prepare for that and now I have to go back. Once I get back, it will not be very likely for me to move all my stuff again, if you know me, you should know how lazy I am.
The only hope for me now.. is hopefully I can manage to go to Laos and work later. This is seriously a dream that is almost impossible to achieve, but I'm trying my best.

Some more competitors on the market soon....
That challenges the belief of many people, including many scientists, that "humans are superior to chimpanzees in all cognitive functions," said researcher Tetsuro Matsuzawa of Kyoto University. "No one can imagine that chimpanzees—young chimpanzees at the age of 5—have a better performance in a memory task than humans," he said in a statement. Matsuzawa, a pioneer in studying the mental abilities of chimps, said even he was surprised. He and colleague Sana Inoue report the results in Tuesday's issue of the journal Current Biology. One memory test included three 5-year-old chimps who'd been taught the order of Arabic numerals 1 through 9, and a dozen human volunteers. They saw nine numbers displayed on a computer screen. When they touched the first number, the other eight turned into white squares. The test was to touch all these squares in the order of the numbers that used to be there. Results showed that the chimps, while no more accurate than the people, could do this faster. One chimp, Ayumu, did the best. Researchers included him and nine college students in a second test. This time, five numbers flashed on the screen only briefly before they were replaced by white squares. The challenge, again, was to touch these squares in the proper sequence. When the numbers were displayed for about seven-tenths of a second, Ayumu and the college students were both able to do this correctly about 80 percent of the time. But when the numbers were displayed for just four-tenths or two-tenths of a second, the chimp was the champ. The briefer of those times is too short to allow a look around the screen, and in those tests Ayumu still scored about 80 percent, while humans plunged to 40 percent. That indicates Ayumu was better at taking in the whole pattern of numbers at a glance, the researchers wrote. "It's amazing what this chimpanzee is able to do," said Elizabeth Lonsdorf, director of the Lester E. Fisher Center for the Study and Conservation of Apes at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. The center studies the mental abilities of apes, but Lonsdorf didn't participate in the new study. She admired Ayumu's performance when the numbers flashed only briefly on the screen. "I just watched the video of that and I can tell you right now, there's no way I can do it," she said. "It's unbelievable. I can't even get the first two (squares)." What's going on here? Even with six months of training, three students failed to catch up to the three young chimps, Matsuzawa said in an e-mail. He thinks two factors gave his chimps the edge. For one thing, he believes human ancestors gave up much of this skill over evolutionary time to make room in the brain for gaining language abilities. The other factor is the youth of Ayumu and his peers. The memory for images that's needed for the tests resembles a skill found in children, but which dissipates with age. In fact, the young chimps performed better than older chimps in the new study. (Ayumu's mom did even worse than the college students). So the next logical step, Lonsdorf said, is to fix up Ayumu with some real competition on these tests: little kids. Source: http://www.mercurynews.com/healthandscience/ci_7633661

A conversation between a brother and a sister
Besides a lovely father, I've also got a super supportive brother, Charles.
He's not my real brother. We were colleagues before and then turned out to be brother and sister. He claimed to be my elder brother while he is actually younger than me.
How supportive is this brother?
Example 1
Although there is no scientific proof, he still let me claim that my IQ is higher than him by 1 point.
Example 2
Two days ago, I used my mini vacuum cleaner to clean my room. And I suddenly had a brilliant idea to use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum my keyboard (I'm using a laptop). I can tell that my idea really worked because the "C" key was sucked half way up!!
I then spent almost 20 minutes playing with that tiny "C" key and actually pulled it all out of the keyboard! But of course I managed to fix it at the end.
To celebrate this, I sent an email to Charles and told him how smart I am!
Of course he replied (two days later though) and agreed!!
By the way, later that day I found out that the "4" key was also sucked up... and I fixed it within 2 minutes! Hahaa. I'm quite a professional now!
Dear bro, I love you!! =P

Unexpected
Believe it or not. My cats changed my life.
Just give you one example.
I adopted my lovely cats from a charity HKCATS in June 2004.
Few months later, someone from HKCATS decided to publish a magazine and asked for articles. I wrote an article and was luckily chosen to be published in the magazine. And the editor Benny became my mentor since then.
One year later, I had to go to Australia for my studies. I started to blog about how I miss my cats. Once again, Benny is nice enough to use my article for another cat magazines he was working for at that moment. Unfortunately that pet magazine stopped its business awhile ago. But Benny is planning for publishing his own cat magazine soon and my article will be one of the columns there.
What's more?
Another member from HKCATS recently asked for cat stories for her friend in Canada. Her friend is a famous Chinese DJ in Canada, she worked as a DJ in Hong Kong before and now she's working for radio stations in Canada and people from US, Canada and Australia can listen to her programme. She's planning to have a new radio programme about pets and now collecting stories. At first I didn't give this member my story because I think it's already long time ago. But she actually approached me and asked if she can have my story and send it to her friend! This is such an encouragement to me! I still cannot believe that someone can still remember a story I wrote 3 years ago. I am more than happy to share my story with her and her friend and other people in the world of course! The reason I wrote that story was to send the message across to as many people as possible!
Later in January, my article will be recorded as a story and broadcast from the DJ's programme. I'm very excited to see how my article will become in audio format.
One thing I've to say is, I've never earned a cent from all these things above. I don't really care about that. I'm already very happy when someone like my writings and is brave enough to publish them on the magazines or radio. =P
I'm so happy tonight that I didn't study at all! >.<

Wat da Hell
Christmas is coming soon.
I'm not a Christian, I don't celebrate Christmas.
The only thing I like about Christmas is the Christmas songs.
This year, I highly recommend this song to Hong Kong Chinese, especially to the Hong Kong Government. The lyric of the song is nothing about Christmas actually.
In fact this is a theme song of the radio drama Wat da Hell <大野叔叔拆你屋> by Commercial Radio 2. The aim of the radio drama is to satirize the fact that the government is trying to take apart all the historical buildings. The lyric of the theme songs is very simple yet able to express the feelings of the majority of the public. I love it very much!
However, I am only able to find the DJ version now, will try to find the plain version later on.
good bye the old good days
